Government proposes to change law in response to public concern

Restaurants and service industry employers will be banned from using tips towards payment of the national minimum wage, under new government proposals.
Following widespread public concern that service charges or tips were not being used by employers in the way customers intended, the government today launched a consultation that would force employers to give staff any gratuities on top of the minimum wage.
